DESCRIPTION
Progress in Neurological Surgery: Concussion collects current review articles about recent experience of leading experts who describe the recent advances in the pathophysiology, biomechanics, imaging definition, and management of concussion.
PURPOSE
The goal of the book is to provide a comprehensive overview of the current understanding of the causes of mild traumatic brain injury or concussion, newer methods to evaluate it, and current and evolving multimodality management strategies.
AUDIENCE
The book is intended to a wide audience including neurosurgeons, neurologists, trauma and sports medicine specialists, physiatrists, neuropsychologists, and neuroscientists.
FEATURES
The book is divided into 4 chapters, is composed of 21 review articles each written by different experts and includes 49 figures, 21 in color and 26 tables. Chapter I is "Overview and mechanism of concussion and consists of 5 review articles concerning the pathophysiology and biomechanics of concussion. The second Chapter "Evaluation of concussion" is subjected by four review articles about advanced imaging and electrophysiological techniques. Third Chapter includes eight review articles about "Management of concussion". Finally, four comprehensive review articles are addressing the topic "Emerging techniques and Future Development" in Chapter IV.
ASSESSMENT
The authors of each paper are highly knowledgeable scientific experts and all have special expertise in the diagnosis, recognition, evaluation, and treatment of concussion. The scientific papers cover the mechanism, evaluation, and management of concussion. Each review paper starts with an abstract and some has an accompanying additional reading section at the end. Additionally, references are listed at the end of each review article.
